Gowan Science Academy Receives A+ Recognition

February 26, 2024

Yuma, AZ – Gowan Science Academy, part of the Crane Elementary School District – has earned the prestigious Arizona Educational Foundation A+ School of Excellence Award. They are among 37 total Arizona public schools to receive this annual recognition for excellence in education.

Schools must apply for consideration of this award. They can retain the A+ School of Excellence designation for four years if they remain an “A” or “B” school according to the State Report Card and continue to exhibit the exceptional qualities that are the hallmark of A+ Schools. Evaluation of schools is based on a written application submitted by the school and a site visit conducted by a team of trained judges chosen by the Arizona Educational Foundation (AEF). During a school’s site visit, the judges will observe all classrooms; meet with students, staff, parents, and community members; interview individuals; meet with school leadership; and review documentation. Schools are evaluated in areas such as school culture, leadership, assessment data, and community involvement.

Gowan Science Academy, a Grade “A” Kindergarten – 8th grade school, provides several programs to foster academic success, including providing a inquiry-based curriculum in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) to maximize individual potential, create opportunities to succeed, and ensure that students thrive in a global community.

Principal Jamie Haines is thrilled to celebrate this achievement with the community. “Earning the distinction of an ‘A+ School of Excellence’ reaffirms the incredibly high standards and hard work that is happening at Gowan Science Academy each day!  We are so proud of our students, teachers, staff, and community!

Gowan Science Academy previously received this honor in 2019.
